The 8th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA 2022) was held during August 24-26, 2022 in a hybrid format in-person as well as virtual in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference was organized by the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Republic.
About 511 scientists and researchers from all around the world registered on the website of the conference. The conference has received more than 460 submissions. After a peer review process carried out by reviewers drawn for the scientific committee, external reviewers, and editorial board depending on the subject matter of the paper, 300 of them were accepted for presentation at the conference and are included in the Proceedings of COIA 2022 in two volumes. The conference was attended by nearly 260 scientists and researchers from different countries, including Azerbaijan, Turkey, USA, Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Oman, UAE, and TRNC. The participants had many fruitful discussions and exchanges of opinions that contributed to the success of the three-day conference.
In the plenary sessions, renowned scientists such as Tamer Basar (USA), Robert Nigmatulin (Russia), Fahd Jarad (Turkey), Sergiy Pogorilyy (Ukraine), Vladimir Tsurkov (Russia), and Elvan Akin (USA) made presentations on all aspects of control and optimization.
The conference played the role of a platform for exchanging opinions between researchers from the academic environment, higher education institutions and students, as well as discussing the latest scientific achievements. The issues covered by speakers at the conference were by and large related to the application of scientific and theoretical results in industry and economy. This event has already become traditional and was held for the sixth time in Baku.
The main goal of the conference was to provide a motivating opportunity to the participants to interact with international experts in a variety of fields, such as Control Theory, Optimization, Industrial and Economics Applications, Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems, Network and Telecommunications, Dynamical Systems and Applications, Numerical and Computational Methods, Mathematical Modeling and Simulation, Applications of Harmonic Analysis Techniques to PDE and Optimization, and Application of Optimization Procedures in Physical Problems.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rovshan Rustamov said that the International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications has been successfully held for many years. He has stated that this prestigious event serves the purpose of training and raising the level of scientific and technical personnel, establishing international relations and cooperation, conducting joint scientific research, and sharing experiences. It was noted that the works of the previous conferences of COIA 2018, and COIA 2020 were included in the Web of Science database. He completed the speech by adding that it was in those years that Azerbaijani scientists took first place among the countries of the South Caucasus in terms of the number of articles they published.
At the closing ceremony on Friday, August 26, 2022, Professor Fikret Aliev announced that the next COIA will be held in 2024. The exact dates of the 9th International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA 2024) and its venue will be determined and announced later.
