The 1st International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA 2005) was held in in Mardakan Arboretum, Baku, Azerbaijan on 22-25 May 2005. The event is organized by the Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University with the support of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Republic (now Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Republic).
As it was noted by specialists this event was the most representative conference on these topics. The conference is attended by nearly 180 scientists and researchers from different countries of the world, including Azerbaijan, Turkey, Italy, Spain, France, Bulgaria, Sweden, USA, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, Iran and Jordan. During the conference 140 technical presentations were made. The list of invited speakers included 12 well-known experts. Plenary talks were given by T. Rockafellar (USA), T. Basar (USA), A. Rubinov (Australia), B. Mordukhovich (USA), P. Pardalos (USA), Ch. Floudas (USA), V. Larin (Ukraine), V. Demyanov (Russia) and others.
At the closing reception on Wednesday, 25 May 2005, Professor Fikret Aliev has announced that the next COIA will be held in the summer of 2008 in Azerbaijan.
