The 2nd International Conference on Control and Optimization with Industrial Applications (COIA 2008) was held in Baku, Azerbaijan on 2- 4 May 2008. A wonderful place on the outskirts of Baku, Mardakan Arbotium was the venue of the conference.
The goal of COIA 2008 was to provide an international forum for scientists, researchers, and practitioners to exchange ideas and approaches, to present research findings and state-of-the-art solutions, to share experiences on potentials and limitations, and to open new avenues of research and developments, on all issues and topics related to optimization.

The event was organized by A. Abbasov (Baku, Azerbaijan), F. Aliev (Baku, Azer baijan), T. Basar (Illinois, USA), Ch. Floudas (Princeton, USA) with the support of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan, and Institute of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University.
More than 50 scientists from 19 countries including Australia, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and USA took part at the conference. In the sections of the conference more than 120 talks were presented. The list of invited speakers included 12 well-known experts.
